Government Reveals Climate Action Plan

July 13, 2005

Environment and Conservation Minister Tom Osborne has unveiled a climate action plan for the province. The plan lists 40 items such as energy efficiency in public buildings and support for the Newfoundland and Labrador Conservation Corps.  Osborne says others require partnerships with the federal government.  Highlights include a house and order strategy for government departments to reduce greenhouse gases.  There would also be idle free zones established around public buildings. The plan also explores the role that hydroelectric projects, such as the Lower Churchill, can play in achieving national and provincial climate change objectives.
