May 2005-The Newfoundland and Labrador division of the Green Party of Canada has formally opened the nominations for candidates in the ridings of Avalon, St. John's South/Mount Pearl, St. John's East, Burin Random St. Georges, Humber St. Barbe Baie Verte, Labrador and Bonavista/Exploits. Given the volatile situation in parliament, it is important that we be prepared for a snap election or otherwise, an election in January 2006.
In order to be formally nominated, prospective candidates need to be endorsed by a least two standing members of the Green Party in NL, preferably from the same riding. Prospective candidates should prepare a hundred word biographical statement as to why they are interested in being a NL Green candidate as well as provide a digital head and shoulder shot. If there are more than one candidates nominated in a riding a nomination contest will be held using a combined system of mail-in ballots and ballots cast at a meeing within the riding.
